Klaas Bies started one in 1969
agricultural repair company. His son Jan Bies joined in 1971
the company, and the boundaries were then quickly shifted towards the industry.
In 1985, Klaas Bies had to take a big step back due to health reasons
and the company was further expanded under the leadership of Jan Bies. In 1993
Jan Bies died at the age of 38, this meant a difficult time for the
family and the company. Widow Minke Bies-Tabak and brother Anne Bies took it
took over, but ultimately decided to leave the company in 2001
sold to the then manager Gerk Kooi. The name BIES remained
existed, but the Bies family was no longer actively involved in the sale.

In 2006 BIES acquired 50%
of the shares acquired from METIS Oosterwolde,
with director-owner Jan Rink. Through the collaboration between BIES and METIS
(and between Gerk Kooi and Jan Rink) both companies could become even stronger
profile in the market.

In 2014 Ypma became
Fine metal from Heerenveen completely taken over. The company remains below
name BIES Fijnmechanics an independent entity within BIES.

Decisions in July 2021
Gerk Kooi and Jan Rink to sell the companies BIES and Metis to the United Entrepreneurs
Fund (https://verenigheidondernemersfonds.nl). The United Entrepreneurs Fund
aims to take over SME manufacturing companies and move on to the next one
phase.

After the takeover, per
January 1, 2022 under the name BIES Group the three Northern companies in the
business operations merged: management is concentrated in the
head office BIES Marum. Production now with approximately 35 CNC
lathes and 40 CNC machining centers are continued in the branches
BIES Oosterwolde, BIES Heerenveen and BIES Marum.

It will be in April 2022
company Machine Metaal Industrie (MMI) in Venray of the directors Peter and
Edwin Coppus was acquired and transferred to BIES Group. Under the name BIES Venray
the company will be continued as an independent entity within BIES Group.

As of January 1, 2023
Harm Munneke appointed as new Managing Director for BIES Group.

The current
BIES Group’s workforce currently consists of 175 employees. It
company has more than 45 advanced CNC lathes and 50 CNC
machining centers, many of which are automatically loaded by robots.
